“The clothespin” by Miley Smiley, review by Daniela Domenici

the clothespin

My fun in reviewing children books written by women goes on: today it is the turn of this delicious “The clothespin” by Miley Smiley whose splendid illustrations are the added value of the story.

The protagonist is a Clothespin made of wood, the only one among all the others made of plastic, who feels alone, different, not so useful and so one day decides to leave the “collegues” and the old lady, owner of the clothespins, to go and see something around the world.

And so her adventures begin; firstly Clothespin meets a Rabbit whom she saves from the clutches of a Red Fox with a surprise hit, then together with Rabbit Clothespin go to Rabbit’s friend Porcupine who was the victim of a trick made by Red Fox. Thanks to the perfect collaboration between Clothespin and Rabbit Porcupine will be saved.

In the end Clothespin realizes that the life with so many new friends is much more interesting than the one she lived before with the old lady and decides to remain with them in the wood even if she every now and then glances towards her…collegues.
